After an auto accident, the very first medical provider that you should see is one that can be the “Quarterback” for your care throughout the duration of your claim. This means that the Provider coordinates and oversees your care and is:
- Trained as a Primary Care Physician
- Is experienced and knowledgeable in musculoskeletal injuries (the most common injuries in an auto accident)
- Is comfortable and experienced in dealing with insurance companies
- Is able to refer you to other Providers for whatever care you may need (Massage Therapy, Physical Therapy, Acupuncture, etc.)
So, which medical Providers fit the bill? Most people will see either their Chiropractor or their Family Physician. Admittedly, I am biased but Chiropractors are typically the only Providers that will be able to comprehensively assess and treat most, if not all of the typical auto accident injuries – sprain/strain soft tissue injuries, structural dysfunction and nutritional support. But, whomever you see, make sure you get a thorough evaluation and get the care that you need!
